WOMEN

Being that i land in this category, i'll share that like most women, i've never been all that interested in being the focus, front and center, of sombody elses camera. I so admire the woman who always seems comfortable to jump in front of any lens. The one who is either so awesomely happy with the way she looks or has somehow mastered how to let any concern for an imperfection roll easily off her back. I wish that was me, but it's not, and there's a good chance it's not you either. But let me share with you, my fellow lens avoiders, what i have learned through taking portraits of other women; that when it comes to all of the imperfections my female subjects think they have - i. just. don't. see. it.

Sure, maybe (after they point it out), i can see the simple kind of blemish we all get but never can i see all of the imperfections they think they have. It's taught me a great deal, personally, that if these women can be so wrong about how they look, then it's likely that the rest of us are that wrong about ourselves too.

So while admire and welcome (and love to photograph!) the woman who who already knows how to own it - i encourage, i urge, those of you are either on the fence or are dead set against a portrait to get out there and give it a shot. Get one done and see how wrong you are.
