ABOUT ME

This section asks me... "Who are you?! What a question! I guess the short of it is i'm a teacher by trade, a photographer through interest and a mother of two incredibly amazing kids by the best, most awesome luck in the world. I am also the proud wife of an incredibly hard working guy who has *somehow* perfected the balance between working a high stress job and being a loving husband and father (and has done so with such an admirable dedication to both). Between him, my children, the rest of my extended family and a network of the greatest friends - i am one. lucky. girl.

While photography has always interested me, i began to delve deeper into the world of it all the same way most "momtographers" do, when my first child was born in 2011. It was then that i not only had a camera in my hand more often than i ever had before, but more than ever i wanted the picture to come out right, to do 'justice' the new, most magnificient little human before me. So i read books, watched youtube, snapped away like crazy and, overtime, improved.

But truth be told, the birth of my children had not been the only time i had feverishly attempted to collect photos of the people i love. It was a few years before their births when i had truly begun to understand the need for, importance of and the value in, capturing images of the significant people in one's life, those who make up one's most memorble memories.

It was in 2005, five years before my son was born that my then 20-year-old cousin passed away due to complications of a heart transplant and two years after that, my father passed away also - he was only 49. On both horrendous occasions, i found myself (and my loved ones) were automatically and immediately drawn to all the old photo albums and shoe boxes attempting to dig up, to hold and to share every. single. photo we could possibly find of each of them. It was amazing how important those pictures became to us (and how frightened i have been to lose them), and it still amazes me today that simple pictures, can be such a powerful link not only to our past memories but also to our passed away people.

So while i my interest and improvements in photography stemmed from wanting to capture and preserve the memories of two of my most important little people... it is the signficance i know a picture can hold for a person, that fuels my desire to capture the lovely moments, and lovely loved ones, of other people too.

I would describe my style of photography as, simple, but also (hopefully) as classic. I do not own or use very many props as it is my hope that the photographs i take will stand the test of time and look as good on the wall 30 years down the road, as they now. I consciously attempt to limit distractions that can take away from the person or people within the frame. I do however, use a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop to improve things like exposure and / or to clear up non-permanent things like blemishes etc. For those who often ask, i use a Canon 6D camera and currently use both a 24-105 mm and 50 mm 1.8 lenses.

Thank you for visiting my website! I consider it a place to consolodate a collection of the photos i have taken during my photography journey and hopefully a space that will inspire me to continue learning and shooting despite the demands of a continuously busy family life. Such demands (although i wouldn't trade my life for the world...) unfortunately do prevent me from pursuing photography in a business like fashion that is wide open for scheduling sessions. I do however, try my best to make time for friends, family or other clients when apparoached to do so. So if you would like to discuss the possibilty of arranging a shoot, or have a super neat idea you'd like to suggest, please contact me through the email below, or you can also get in touch or follow along on Facebook by clicking on the icon below.
I am located in Campbell River BC, Canada.

Success! Message received.
